2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1

Mr. White

Mr. White
  • Contest: 2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1
  • Tom Hanks wrote and directed "That Thing You Do!" his first film, and as he was the biggest name, he also appeared in it. While Hanks was the star attraction, his role was subdued, and he had the sweet sternness that few are capable of delivering. Here he played Mr. White, the A&R Representative from Playtone Records, which signed the Wonders, or rather the Oneders as they were initially called before White renamed them. White takes them on tour, and he deserved much of the credit for taking them on a national stage. Hanks, of course, offers sage advice, and while he realistically is the fifth (or maybe less) important character in the film, this movie is nowhere near the same had he cast someone other than himself.
  • TV Show/Movie Appeared: That Thing You Do! (1996)
  • Actor/Actress: Tom Hanks
  • Position Portrayed: A&R Representative from Playtone
  • Why you should vote:: Tom Hanks is excellent here, and this is a thank you for the creation of this fun flick.
  • Why you should not vote:: He could not keep The Wonders together.
