Hmmm.
While we view Empire Records as a cult classic, there is something in retrospect where you have a record store manager trying to keep his store independent with the knowledge that fifteen years later file sharing would have put him out of business anyway. Now that we got that out of the way, Joe Reaves ran Empire Records and was the father figure of sorts to the motley crew of late teens who worked there. We have to respect his indie ethos to want to keep Empire from being another Music Town (the big box chain of records), but we know how it will end either way, though the way it went was that he would eventually buy the store.
