Jimmy Dugan

Jimmy Dugan
“There’s no crying in Baseball!”   That line alone could vault Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) into our Contributors section of the Hall. Decades later, it is still quoted on Baseball broadcasts and diamonds across the world. Hanks was perfect comedic testosterone in the film, and was able to bring other dimensions to the movie, without taking away from the true stars of the film, the women.

Dugan himself hit nearly 500 fictitious Home Runs (including 58 in 1938), and had he not drunk himself out of the league, would have probably come close to the 600 mark. Although we never did see a complete stat line of Jimmy Dugan, what we did know indicated to us that may himself been a legitimate candidate for the Baseball Hall of Fame. We think he is a legitimate candidate for ours.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
A League of Their Own (1992)

Actor:
Tom Hanks

Role Portrayed:
Manager of the Rockford Peaches

Why you should vote for him:
This could be one of the more remembered Managers in Baseball film history.

Why you should not vote for him:
We are hard pressed to come up with a good one….how about because he failed to lead the Peaches to victory over Racine?
