“Starbury” arrived in the middle of the 1998/99 season in a major three-way trade with Minnesota and Milwaukee, and he went on to 23.4 PPG in his 31 Games of the season. In his first full season as a Net, he would have a 22.2 Point and 8.4 Assist per Game average, and he would be named a Third Team All-Pro, one of the few Nets to be named to an All-NBA roster. The following season, Marbury would be chosen for the All-Star Game, and while he was not named to an All-NBA Team, he would have career highs of 22.7 PER and 23.9 Points per Game. That would be the last year for Marbury with New Jersey, as he was traded to Phoenix before the start of the next season.
What hurts the Marbury the most is that trade as it was for Jason Kidd, and it was the latter who led the Nets to their greatest success since they joined the NBA, but remember that this is not a team that has been littered with great stars, and he did have a 23.0 PPG with a 21.7 PER as a Net.
