Actually, his journey to American Baseball began in the Houston Astros, where he was chosen as an Amateur Free Agent. As a minor leaguer, he was traded to the Mariners organization in 1998 and debuted for the Mariners that year. He would be a full-time member of Seattle's roster in 2001 and would be their regular Shortstop for the Mariners that year until 2003.
