Diaz debuted in 2016 with an 18 Save rookie season, and a fifth-place finish in Rookie of the Year voting. He would increase that to 34 in 2017, but it was 2018 that made him a big name in baseball circles. The Puerto Rican closer would lead the American League in Saves (57), Games Finished (65), and had an ERA of 1.96 and Whip of 0.791. Diaz went to the All-Star Game and won the Reliever of the Year Award.
Along with Robinson Cano, he was dealt to the New York Mets after that magical season, as the Mariners began to rebuild again. He would save 109 Games and finished 140 Games for the Mariners.
