After playing a decade in Japan with Yokohama, Kazuhiro Sasaki was a 32-year old rookie in Seattle, and with a decade of real experience, he easily won the 2000 American League Rookie of the Year Award.  The former Central League MVP would finish third in the AL with 37 Saves.

Sasaki was even better in the two years that followed.  He would be named to the All-Star Team in both of those years, and he had 45 Saves and 37 Saves, with the latter placing him second in the AL.  Sasaki’s 2001 year also saw him have a WHIP of  0.885, and in 2002, he had an ERA of 2.52, the best he would have in the Majors.  Sasaki played one more year in Seattle, only accruing 10 Saves, and he would return to Yokohama after the 2003 season ended.

With Seattle, Sasaki had 129 Saves, which makes him the all-time leader in franchise history.
