Mark Langston was a second round pick in 1981 and would debut with the Mariners in 1984, where he had a stellar rookie campaign.  The product of San Jose State went 17-10 and would lead the AL in Strikeouts with 204.  He was the runner-up to the Rookie of the Year, coincidentally losing to his teammate, Alvin Davis.

Langston would suffer the sophomore jinx in 1985 with a losing record (7-14) and an ERA over 5, but in the two years that came after, he would again lead the AL in Ks.  1987 was especially sweet for the flamethrower as he would strike out a career-high 262 batters with 19 Wins.  That year, he made the All-Star team, finished fifth in Cy Young voting, and won his first of two straight Gold Gloves.  He would throw for 235 Strikeouts in 1988.

He would be traded to the Montreal Expos in the 1989 mid-season transaction that would net Randy Johnson in return.  Langston would later go to three straight All-Star Games (1991-93) with the California Angels.  As a Mariner, Langston went 74-67 with 1,078 Strikeouts.  Had he not been traded for Johnson, we think his legacy in Seattle would be stronger.
