Born in Slovakia, Elmer Valo immigrated to the United States as a child and would live the American Dream to become a Major League Baseball Player.  Valo would debut with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1940, and as history would tell us was one of the most intense players to don the uniform of the Athletics.

With the Athletics, Valo played from 1940 to 1956 and would have nine years where he had at least 100 Hits.  The Outfielder was not a traditional star, but his plate discipline made him valuable as he would have an Athletic On Base Percentage of .403, with three of his campaigns finishing in the top ten in that metric.

Valo would have 1,229 Hits as an Athletic, and was chosen for the Philadelphia Baseball Wall of Fame in 1990.
