From replacement player to two time Major League All-Star, Rick Reed had a very good run with the New York Mets, though it is astounding how much he is not regarded much at all in the Mets canon of history.
Reed struggled to make it to the Majors and when he signed as a Free Agent with the Mets few thought much of the journeyman hurler. He would however go on the best run of his career, posting four straight 10 win seasons and two All-Star Game appearances and a run that helped the Mets face the Yankees in the “Subway Series”. As a Met, Rick Reed finished in the top five in WHIP twice.
Not too bad for a forgotten player and former replacement!
