The starting Rightfielder for six seasons (and two injury-plagued ones) Ival Goodman proved to be a key contributor to many good seasons that Cincinnati would have in the late ’30s and 1940.

As a rookie, Goodman would lead the National League in Triples and would do so again in the following year.  In 1938 he would have career highs in Hits (166) and Home Runs (30) and would go to his first All-Star Game.  1939 would see his second and final All-Star Game where he batted .323 with a .401 OBP, both career highs.  In 1940 he would regress a bit, but that was the year that the Reds put it all together to win the World Series.

Goodman had 995 Hits while batting .279 for Cincinnati.  He was also a member of Cincinnati's second Hall of Fame Class; inducted in 1959.
