The third Venezuelan to make the Majors, Chico Carrasquel debuted for the White Sox in 1950, and in the following season, the native of Caracas became the first Venezuelan to be named to the All-Star team.

Playing at Shortstop, Carrasquel was known for his defensive skill.  In both 1951 and 1954, he led the American League in Defensive bWAR, and he was in the top four in 1950, 1953, and 1955.  Carrasquel was not the best hitter, but in the 837 Games he played in Chicago, he would accumulate 825 Hits with a respectable .265 Batting Average.  He would also go to the All-Star Game in 1953, 1954 and 1955, the latter being his last season in the Windy City, as he was traded to the Cleveland Indians afterward.
