When Vern Stephens was playing, there were not a lot of Shortstops who could put up power numbers, but Stephens was not your ordinary infielder.

Stephens won the Home Run Title with the St. Louis Browns in 1945 and was named to four All-Star teams while playing there.  Stephens was traded to the Red Sox, where he joined Ted Williams in a potent offense.  He would put out even better power numbers, hitting 98 Home Runs from 1948 to 1950, and he would drive in 440 runners in that time, winning two RBI Titles (1949 & 1950).  Stephens was with the Red Sox for five seasons, and he was dealt to the White Sox before the 1953 season.

With Boston, Stephens had 721 Hits with 122 Home Runs, and entered the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2006.
