Playing at Shortstop and Third Base, Valentin may not have ever won a Gold Glove, but he was the overall league-leader in Total Zone Runs twice (1993 & 1995), and he led his position in that category three times (once at Third and twice at Short). Over his Red Sox tenure, Valentin had a Defensive bWAR of 12.3, a firm number, which was a significant reason he lands so high on this list.
The infielder was no scrub with his bat, as he won the Silver Slugger in 1995, and led the American League in Doubles in 1997. He would have 1,093 Hits, 124 Home Runs, and batted .279 in his ten seasons with the BoSox.Boston inducted Valentin into their Hall of Fame in 2010.
