McGregor debuted in 1976 and found a permanent home with Baltimore in 1978 when he went 15-13 over 233 Innings. From that season until 1985, he would always have a winning record, and he was an All-Star in 1981. In 1980, he won 20 Games, and was sixth in Cy Young voting, but the year before, he led the American League in WHIP and SO/BB, the latter being very impressive considering that he only had 81 Strikeouts. McGregor helped Baltimore win the 1983 World Series, where he went 1-1 with an ERA of 1.06 over 17 Innings.
He was mostly ineffective in his last three years, and he retired in 1988 with a record of 138-108. McGregor only had 904 Strikeouts, but he only walked 518 batters over 2,140.2 Innings. That is a mark of a good control pitcher. The Orioles inducted McGregor into their Hall of Fame in 1990.
