Shocker debuted for the Browns in 1918, when he was traded from the New York Yankees. He started slow, appearing in 94.2 Innings in 1918, bit was a regular in 1919. From 1920 to 1923, he would be a 20 Game winner, with a league-leading 27 in 1921. He exhibited exceptional control, leading the American League in BB/9 and SO/BB in both 1922 and 1923, and in both years, he would receive MVP votes.
The Yankees bookend was completed, when he was traded back to them in December of 1924. With the Browns, he had a record of 126-80 with 704 Strikeouts.
