Ed Brandt may have had a losing record for the Boston Braves (94-119) but honestly this was not a great team for the majority of Brandt’s time in Boston and he was the Opening Day Pitcher three times, which shows where he was in the pecking order.

With all of that being said, Brandt’s first three seasons were not very good as he had an Earned Run Average over 5 in each of those years as well as leading the National League in Losses as a rookie.  Brandt turned it all around in his fourth season (1931) where he went 18-11 with a 2.92 ERA, which was good enough for third in the NL.  He was also third in bWAR for Pitchers and was 10th in MVP voting.

Brandt did not have a season where he received MVP voting again but he would post 16 Wins the next three years and was the ace of the Braves staff.  He also wasn’t a bad hitting Pitcher as he batted .245 with 150 Hits as a Brave.
