Curt Simmons made his Major League debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1947, and after a few seasons, the hurler would show himself off as one of the best southpaws in the National League.

In 1950, Simmons went 17-8, but before he could build on that, he served in the U.S. Military during the Korean War. Simmons returned in 1952 and was an All-Star the next two seasons.  He would again earn the mid-season honor in 1957, but he was beset with injuries and struggled for years, during which he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Simmons returned to his old ways in 1963, winning 15 Games against 9, and he had 18 Wins (again with 9 Losses) in 1964, which was the season he helped the Cardinals win the World Series.  That was Simmons’ last good year, and he played until 1967, finishing off with stops with the Cubs and the California Angels.

The lefthander retired with a record of 193-183 and 1,697 Strikeouts.
