gold star for USAHOF

Jimmy Garvin

Jimmy Garvin

When discussing the case of Jimmy Garvin the NIHOF committee openly discussed placing him in the Freebirds page.  In future editions, we may do that (or we may witness Garvin get inducted with the Freebrids) but for now we will concentrate on his career before his association with Michael Hayes and company which was a very good one.

While the WWF had Randy Savage and Elizabeth, the NWA had “Gorgeous” Jimmy Garvin and Precious.  Garvin played the egotistical pretty boy heel perfectly and there was no doubt that wrestling fans believed that Garvin was the arrogant character he portrayed on television.  Garvin reached his height in popularity with a face turn that resulted in feuds against Kevin Sullivan & Ric Flair.  Casual observers saw Garvin & his valets as a Randy Savage knockoff, but Garvin predated the Macho Man, and fans of the NWA, World Class and the AWA never saw him as anything other than an original.
