2021 Rock Eligibles

The leader of the influential Lo-Fi group, Guided by Voices, Robert Pollard struck out on his own and developed a much acclaimed musical catalogue on his own. There are many who praise Pollard as a musical genius, but foe every one that says this, there are likely ten people saying “Who the hell is Robert Pollard?”
A Latin superstar (and super sexy one at that), Columbian born Shakira brings her sultry Pop credentials to the Hall of Fame ballot in 2021. As an International Superstar, she might receive a look or two, but without any true Rock and Roll credibility she can only go so far. Of course we think she has an excellent chance for the Hall of Fame, but then…
Drawing from diverse Alternative influences, yet morphing it all into their own beautiful arrangements, Austin, Texas’ Spoon is a great story of an Indie band that persevered and made it without having to sacrifice their core roots. They appear as of this writing to be really hitting their stride, so their Hall of Fame chances appear to be far from written.
Like many hard driving Post Grunge bands, Staind falls into the category of sounding too much like their predecessors to anger critics, but more than enough to appeal to the fans who like that musical style. Really, they can’t win. With that type of equation, they will likely be remembered as a successful footnote in the Rock and Roll canon, but don’t expect to see their…
Redefining popular music from Sweden, The Hives quarterbacked the Garage Rock sound in the new millennium and became one of the ‘it’ bands. Stylistically brilliant, powerful to the ears and the type of Rock that makes people take notice could be a formula to Cleveland but there is still a bit of work to do for the Hives to separate themselves from the pack.
From Finland, the Rasmus dominated the Hard Rock scene in their native country and throughout Scandinavia and parts of Europe. Again, we know the score; a band has to conquer the States to have any reasonable shot for the Hall of Fame, but if there is a Finnish Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (and for the record, we really are not that curious) they would…
This one could be VERY interesting. Although they were dismissed as fluff when they came out, the Spice Girls sold a ton of records and their “Girl Power” became an International anthem. The amazing this is, here we are years later and they are still all over pop culture even though they have not recorded anything new in what seems like forever. The Rock history is…
Taking and Rock and Roll and the Symphony to the next level, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is not known for their albums (although they have sold millions) but for their brilliant concerts that transcends generations. This isn’t exactly a Hall of Fame entity, but there should be some Hall reserved for this type of brilliant fusion. We just aren’t sure what it is.
