Genesis
Genesis had two distinct periods.  The first was the Progressive Rock version fronted by the eccentric Peter Gabriel.  The second was the hit making Pop/Rock machine that was taken over by Phil Collins’ vocals.  Either version could make a case for induction.  Combined, they should have been in years ago.

Inducted in 2010.  From Godalming, England

Peter Gabriel (vocals, flute), Tony Banks (keyboards), Phil Collins (vocals, drums), Steve Hackett (guitar), Mike Rutherford (bass, guitar)

Should they be in the Hall of Fame?

Genesis are my favorite band, and always have been. I'm a quintessential Genesis fan---I love ALL their music from both of their Gabriel-fronted and Collins-fronted eras. I also love the last studio album they did, 1997's "Calling All Stations", with Ray Wilson at the microphone. I love Genesis, so naturally I am absolutely over the moon that they were finally inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, as they should be.I recently came across a Genesis website, and there was a debate about Genesis "dying&quo t; after their "last true" progressive rock album, 1976's "Wind & Wuthering" . And I came across a comment from a guy named Philip. I'd like to share Philip's comment with you:"I think that all this talk that the band 'died' and RIP after the 'Wind Wuthering' album is utter tosh, and a very simplistic view of the band. There are some fantastic songs on "And Then There Were Three", and every other album after they went down to a three-piece. What were these guys supposed to do, write 10min + epics about greek mythology for the rest of time? Like most people they moved on. Very few, if any, other 'progressiv e' bands evolved in the way that Genesis did, and where there is so much emphasis on the songs, and melodic hooks. For me they are quite unique."Ve ry well said Philip. Long live Genesis! :-)

genesis does deserve to be in the hall. I don't know how high they would be on the totem pole but they should be in. Most artists that morph into more pop music seem to be affcted adversely (ie Journey, Foreigner, Yes) but I think the hall had no choice but to put htese guys in. after all it was a nice tidy way of enshrining both Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel, either who deserve consideration on their own,. Are they the msot deserving prog rock band available? no that would obviously be Rush. are they the best pop band available? No Journey blows them away. but combined they do make a nice appeasing induction for all.

Jimmy, you were doing fine until you made your ridiculous remark about Journey "blowing away" Genesis in regards to pop music. Are you effing serious??? I'm totally ROTFLMAO!Whatev er, dude. Say what you want about them, but Genesis ARE in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame, now and forever, so any criticisms of them now are totally meaningless. And I'm glad. :-)

  • Letters to Cleo
On the bubblegum side of 90’s Alternative music, Letters to Cleo managed to achieve a bit of success with cute songs that seemed to be inspired by the 80’s. They were able to get the biggest notoriety with some covers, but overall they had a respectable run, although it may be forgotten by the mass populace.   The Bullet Points:Eligible…
