The Dave Clark Five

Controversially inducted a year later than they should have been due to a desire to put in a Rap act (The Dave Clark Five actually had more votes than Grandmaster Flash, but the latter was somehow put in anyway), the Dave Clark Five was a hit making machine during the British Invasion era.  Though they had a large amount of hits, it didn’t have the staying power of the Beatles or the Rolling Stones but it was substantial enough to earn their slot in the Hall.

Inducted in 2008.From London, England

Dave Clark (drums, vocals), Lenny Davidson (guitar), Rick Huxley (bass), Denis Payton (saxes, harmonica, vocals), Mike Smith (keyboards, vocals)

Many people consider the induction of Percy Sledge to be the low-water mark for the Hall, but I think the Dave Clark Five set that mark even lower. At least you can still find Percy Sledge records (and he was not a one-hit wonder: He had five pop Top 40 hits, including my favorite, "Take Time to Know Her"), but good luck finding DC5 material these days.

This is one thing I don't get about the hall. I like the Dave Clark Five a lot, but they were hit makers not real influential but a band like Chicago had more hits AND were influential but they can't even get nominated. I just wish the Hall would be consistent.
