Some artists on this list we expect will get into the Hall. Some we, feel has no realistic chance. In some ways, we almost felt the Electric Light Orchestra is a rare act that kind of felt like they belonged in both categories.

When ELO formed they wanted to create modern Pop songs with classical overtones. This formula that the Electric Light Orchestra created was a successful one, as their melodic tunes were well received and for over a decade they were able to generate numerous successful albums that received airplay on both sides of the Atlantic. Although their music was certainly catchy, the biggest knock against them was that their music was not substantial enough despite the rich textures they used in production. Their chances may be based on how much the Hall thinks that Jeff Lynne is deserving of induction as he was the face and backbone of the band.

Not substantial enough??? substantial enough for John Lennon to call ELO son of Beatles and to say had the Beatles stayed together they would have sounded like ELO. ELO Jeff Lynne had a run of not only hit singles but hit albums 5 out of the 10 tracks from their 1976 release A new world record were hit singles . Their 1977 album out of the Blue was one of the most anticipated albums I can recall and sold over 10 million copies. Their 1979 release Discovery went double platinum had 9 tracks 5 of which were hit singles. In 2014 after almost 15 years Jeff Lynne Performed with his newest ELO line up to a crowd of over 50,000 at London's Hyde Park seems like ELO's music is pretty substantial to me

They should enter, but first their grandfather band The Moody Blues, Days Of Future Passed album was who created all the symphonic orchestra blends with pop/rock. After them I would support ELO wich I love Eldorado, is a masterpiece. :-)

ELO should be in the rr-hof, here's a group that you can take at least 2 songs from every album/cd people would know them. Jeff Lynne is a very successful produce for himself & other artists.

Once again, ELO is an English Progressive Rock band. They certainly had some hits.

The sentence above in the ELO monologue states "When ELO formed they wanted to create modern pop songs with classical overtones." The Moody Blues were the first to do this almost 10 years earlier, and they have been waiting to be inducted for over 25 years!! Honor, nominate and induct The Moody Blues first, and only then would I consider ELO for induction.

First of all, what are we saying about their music being insubstantial? Their first 4 albums were complex masterpieces, and subsequent albums continued laying down the rich sonic textures that endeared them to many fans. Also, Jeff Lyne produced the BEATLES when they reunited. His production work for the band should single handedly get ELO in. They may not be at the VERY top but the Hall has put in Michael Jackson, who isn't even a rock artist, and Green Day, which definitely isn't as talented. The Hall has continued to show a shunning towards Prog Rock bands. I'm

82nd on the list? Really, I think you need to move these guys up just a tad, like 30 spots or more. Jeff Lynne is a rock legend, so much so Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and the Beatles when they did the anthlogy's in 95-96 had to have him produce and or write for them. ELO is not the most influential band I get it but they sure were good, to quote John Lennon "if the Beatles were to die and come back as another band we would be ELO"
