For many, Linda Ronstadt was Rock and Roll’s first female solo superstar. Though many women achieved success on the Rock platform, Ronstadt was a megastar in the 70’s selling out millions of albums and rescuing classic songs from oblivion. Ronstadt was the first female Rock star that could sell out an arena and with a warm voice and a collection of songs with broad Rock and Country appeal she was easily the biggest female Rock star of the 70’s. Her later years saw her embrace other styles (with less commercial appeal) of music but it all went to prove her ability as a singer with unquestioned ability. Inducted in 2014

It's been a long time since her heyday and most young people never heard of her. If she was being considered in 1994 when she was first eligible, she would be a shoo-in. 20 years later, who knows? But there is no doubt in my mind she is the greatest female singer of the 2nd half of fhe 20th century, was the female face of rock and roll in the 1970s and definitely deserving of enshrinement as one of the greats in her generation's hall of fame.

Linda Ronstadt deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for two reasons. One: She is a true Rock and Roll Queen/Diva. Her music has inspired a legion of fans. Her music has touched our hearts. Second: She is a role model for many Mexican-America ns who grew up rocking to her music. She was the bridge for many of us that helped us assimilate through her music.

Since the end of the Jazz era, there have been precious few singers who could be compared to Jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughn or Dinah Washington.

Ronstadt is one of those few after 1965 who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. (Aretha Franklin, Annie Lennox, and Alison Moyet are others.) I say 1965 because Ronstadt first came to prominence with the Stone Poneys and their 1967 hit, "Different Drum". That's how long Ronstadt has been working.

Linda Ronstadt defined the 1970's. She's been the cover on The Rolling Stone SIX times. She has ELEVEN Grammy wins. Rock and Roll, as the name implies, is also about sex and Linda Ronstadt was a Rock and Roll sexual icon for about 20 years. She was super-hot! I would place her #1 on the list.

How do we keep overlooking Miss Ronstadt? What a travesty. A serious no doubter who is not even being discussed. Was there anyone bigger than Linda in the 70's and she has had a pretty big 2nd career doing other styles of music though not rock. this may be why she is getting ignored. If it then it is wrong because many artists have become more adult oriented the older they get and are not penalized (see Rod Stewart, Robert Plant, Elton John, etc.) Or maybe it is because she is a beautiful woman. I don't know but whatever it is she needs to be in the hall. Pronto.
