ZZ Top

With music that was pure Texas, ZZ Top’s blend of Blues, Hard Rock, and unique Tex Mex influences made them stars in the 70’s.  The 1983 album, Eliminator brought them international stardom when they altered their sound to crack mainstream radio and MTV; a feat they accomplished without alienating their core audience.

Inducted in 2004.  From Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

Frank Beard (drums), Billy Gibbons (guitar & vocals), Dusty Hill (bass & vocals)

For me, anyway, ZZ Top's induction was the moment when the Hall of Fame dropped the bar low enough to make the distinction of being enshrined meaningless: You could be journeymen with a long and even commercially successful career, and if you just hung on long enough, you would be recognized. But for what? Competently constructed and executed blues-rock that didn't advance the style and didn't really have anything to say in the first place?
