191. Barry White

The mantra of Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll mantra may not completely apply to Barry White; but the Sex part sure does. If there is any other artist who has been the backdrop to fornication more than Barry White, we would like to know who that might be.

With a distinctive soothing bass voice and an ear for music, Barry White was a hit making machine throughout the 70’s. White used his voice to craft some beautiful Soul music that had elements of Pop, Funk and Disco. If Barry White sang a song, there was no point even trying to cover it; nobody could match the sexuality he put into a tune. What might hurt Barry White; is that the bulk of his material drew from similar theme and the over the top style in some of his work does not help him either. Even though those drawbacks are evident, his overall work behind the scenes may very well be accounted for and the smooth Soul of Barry White could very well find himself in the Hall sooner or later.
