The British Invasion has seen its share of bands that shot to stardom in North America. Many of those bands rightfully became stars, and others became famous despite a perceived lack of talent. In retrospect no British Invasion band probably should have made it big but failed more than the Pretty Things.

The Pretty Things have often been compared to the Rolling Stones, only they may have been dirtier, raunchier and more suggestive than the aforementioned band that was proclaimed the Greatest Rock and Roll Band on Earth. They did find success in Britain, but certainly not at the level they probably should have and in America they still remain unknown to mass audiences. Their early Garage Rock sound veered off into Psychedelic and Progressive Rock elements but the success they did have went away with each passing album. The Pretty Things may not be the best known (or even in the top ten) of the British Invasion bands but a listen of their work today will make you wonder why they weren’t.
