174. Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio

Generally, if you help define a Rock genre, it would be expected that you would have a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio receive credit for being the top Rockabilly bands, but they received much of that credit long after they recorded.

When they recorded for Sun records, Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio were delivering some of the wildest concerts ever seen in their day. Their music was raucous, loud and infectious. Problem was, they drew little interest and sold only a handful of records. They broke up quickly due to their lack of success, but it would only be a few years later that their legacy grew as the next batch of rockers raved out about how Burnette embodied the Rock and Roll spirit. The Hall often inducts an early Rock star with each ceremony, and there is no reason to think that the Hall won’t rediscover Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio much the way musicians kept doing so years after they disbanded.
