130. Phil Collins

1It is occasionally forgotten how huge Phil Collins was in the 80’s. Whether it was on T.V. (Miami Vice), his solo career or with Genesis, Collins certainly didn’t look like a rock star that could have come out of the MTV generation.

After taking over the reigns as lead singer of Genesis and helping to transform their sound, Collins was an oddity in that he was able to have a very successful solo career at the same time while being part of a successful band. After generating multiple hits, Collins’ sound degenerated to “dentist chair” music in the 90’s and that lasting memory could prevent his solo career from receiving induction. Much like our entry with Peter Gabriel, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame may feel that since Genesis was honored, the solo career of Mr. Collins can be overlooked.
