Not in Hall of Fame News

The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced that Alanis Morissette will be part of the Class of 2022, joining Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance who were announced last March.  More inductees will be announced later. Morissette’s singing career began in 1987 and in 1991, she had her first hit record (Alanis), and was considered one of the top teen pop stars in Canada.   She pivoted her career a few years later, with an Alternative Rock album, “Jagged Little Pill”, which propelled her to international stardom and yielded number one hits, “You Oughta Know”, “Hand in my Pocket” and “Ironic.”  The album…
Regular visitors of Notinhalloffame.com know that we are slowly working on the top 50 of every major team in the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB.  Once that is done, we intend to look at how each team honor their past players, coaches and executives.  As such, it is news to us that fans have inducted the Vince Wilfork into their franchise Hall of Fame. A Nose Tackle/Defensive End/Defensive Tackle for the Pats from 2004 to 2014, Wilfork joined the team as a First Round Pick (21st Overall) from Miami (FL).   A larger-than-life figure, Wilfork helped lead New England to six AFC Championship Games,…
Following the announcement of Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets winning the second of our Notinhalloffame.com Cup, we are pleased to announce that during the regular NHL season, we did the same thing. Here are the rules. With every single regular season game, we anointed the best five players in the game with descending points, 5-4-3-2-1.  A whopping, 810 players received at least one point, with 19 cracking at least 100.   The top players for the NHL NIHOF Cup are not always the best in the league, as injuries keep players out of games, and a premium on staying healthy can…

RIP: Bob Lanier

Basketball lost a great one as it was announced that Bob Lanier passed away at the age of 73.  It was not announced how he died, but that it followed a short illness. A superstar at St. Bonaventure, Lanier took the school to the Final Four in 1970, and was taken with the First Overall Pick by the Detroit Pistons in the following draft.  Lanier was an All-Rookie despite recovering from a knee injury that by his own admission, he should not have played on, but he got healthy and was an All-Star in seven of the next eight years, with the…
On last night’s UFC card, it was announced that Daniel Cormier will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022. Coming up the MMA ranks as the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Miocic made his UFC debut in 2013, defeating Frank Mir.  He dropped weight to compete in the Light Heavyweight Division, and challenged Jon Jones for the Title at UFC 182, though fell via unanimous decision.   Injuries and a Jones doping violation postponed a rematch, and Cormier would go on to win the vacant title (Jones was stripped of the belt) by beating Anthony Johnson.  After…
We will argue that is days like these that created this website. Over a decade ago, constant debates of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame led us to create our own list of who we thought that should be considered.  Since we put out our first list in 2009, we can state unequivocally that our criticism of the Rock Hall has shrunk, but it remains the most divisive Hall-based institution and their inconsistent schedule remains an issue, as do the way they arbitrarily induct acts who were not voted in through vague categories. No matter. Here are the newest members…

RIP: Naomi Judd

A day before she was to be inducted with her daughter, Wynonna, to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Naomi Judd passed away.  While details remain vague, the official statement was that she died from mental illness, which she has been dealing with for a long time.  The Judds were going to do their “Final Tour” on September 30 on a ten-city tour. First performing as a pair in the early 80s, they broke out quickly, charting their first number one Country Album in 1984, and putting out six albums overall, the first three going number one.  They would have 14 number ones,…
Yes, we know that this is taking a while! As many of you know, we here at Notinhalloffame.com are slowly generating the 50 of each major North American sports team.  That being said, we have existing Top 50 lists out and we always consistently look to update them when we can and based on necessity.  As such, we are very happy to present our post-2021 revision of our top 50 Baltimore Orioles. As for all of our top 50 players in baseball we look at the following:  1.  Advanced Statistics. 2.  Traditional statistics and how they finished in the American League.  3.  Playoff accomplishments. 4.  Their…
We can’t say that we are surprised. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will soon be announcing the newest members to their Cleveland-based institution, and Dolly Parton, who was nominated, late in the process respectively asked herself to be removed from consideration.  Realistically, when she made that request to the voters, many of the ballot were already in, or on its way, so whether that had any impact on the tally is suspect, but it did create a quandary of what the Rock Hall would do if she was chosen.  In an interview with NPR’s Morning Edition, she was asked by…
Sometimes, shame works. Less than a month ago, Dave Stewart was asked on Twitter by a fan when the Oakland Athletics planned to follow through on his retirement.  His response shocked A’s fans and Baseball alike: I have no idea what the A’s are doing. At this point they can just retire the number with no celebration as far as I’m concerned. Come to the park and it will be on display with the other retired numbers. If you find out something before I do, please let me know?” Oakland had announced in 2019 that the team would retire Stewart’s number…
