52. Nick Cave

We have to admit that we were all shocked that Leonard Cohen got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It isn’t that we did not feel that he deserved it on some level; it is just that we did not think that this was an artist that the Hall would ever nominate let alone induct. With Cohen’s induction, we wonder if this could allow Nick Cave, the eccentric Australian who has been compared to him into the Hall.

Prior to forming the Bad Seeds, Cave was part of the Birthday Party, one of the first Goth bands of note. Cave continued on writing lyrics exploring death and similar topics with a Post Punk potpourri of Blues and Rock. Lyrically brilliant, Cave is considered one of the best songwriters of his time, and few (if any) can match the dark imagery he creates. Combined with his haunting voice and dark arrangements, Nick Cave certainly has uniqueness cornered. Still churning out acclaimed album after acclaimed album, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds may have a small chance for induction, but if they keep producing the way they have been, that small chance will continue to improve.
