In a ceremony prior to their home field loss against the Oakland A’s, the Chicago White Sox retired the number 56 of Mark Buehrle.The lefthander made his debut in 2000 for Chicago where he would send the next twelve seasons of his career.  With the Chi-Sox, Buehrle would go to four All Star Games and would win 161 Games and fan 1,396 batters.  He would help Chicago win the 2005 World Series.  Buehrle becomes the 11th White Sox player in team history to have his number retired joining Nellie Fox (#2), Harold Baines (#3), Luke Appling (#4), Minnie Minoso (#9),…
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers has announced that one former player and two builders will comprise their Hall of Fame Class of 2017.Wide Receiver, Terrence Edwards will be the lone player entering the Bombers Hall.  A former Georgia Bulldog, Edwards only had one reception in the NFL (with the Atlanta Falcons) and sought his football dreams north of the border with the Toronto Argonauts.  He wasn’t there long, and was released and picked up by the Montreal Alouettes where he stayed for two years but it was when he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers prior to the 2007 season that…
While we are not sure if any petition from Change.org has ever worked, it is of interest to us that there is one to try and remove a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.The non-profit Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation has started a petition to remove Dennis Rodman from the Hall following his praise and defense of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, who now has American blood on his hands”.  This is in reference to Otto Warmbier, who was held captive by North Korea for seventeen months and was returned in a coma.  He died on Monday.To date,…
Looks like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is expanding.The Cleveland based institution has announced that a satellite exhibit will debut in Tokyo, Japan this September and that a permanent venue will be developed later on.Tokyo is a musical hotbed in the world and it is not that out of leftfield for the first expansion to take place here.  It will be very interesting to see where they look to expand next and with the huge growth in visitors that the Rock Hall has seen they are far from done.Trip to Tokyo anyone?
Jason Taylor has announced via his Twitter feed that his former coach in Miami, Jimmy Johnson will be his presenter at the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 5 in Canton.  This is a fitting choice as Taylor was drafted into the NFL by Johnson in the third round in 1997.  The former Defensive Player of the Year cited Johnson as “someone who believed in him from day one”.We will be watching the ceremony and we are certain that many of you will be too!
The United States Hockey Hall of Fame has announced that its membership will swell by five new members today.  Let’s get right to it and see who is entering this prestigious institution!Scott Young:  A seventeen year veteran of the National Hockey League, Young scored 756 Points over his career.  His highlights were being part of two Stanley Cup Championship Teams (Pittsburgh in 1991 & Colorado in ’96).  Internationally, Young would win a Gold Medal in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and a Silver in the 2002 Olympics.  Ron Wilson:  Wilson’s career as a player was not a long one…
