2013 Songwriters HOF Class Announced

Although we focus musically on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we thought it would be pertinent to mention that the Songwriters Hall of Fame have announced their latest inductions. Many members of the Class of 2013 will be familiar to Rock fans.

The class is headlined by Steve Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith. We are trying to remember Tyler from the “Dream On” days, as opposed to the androgynous looking former judge of American Idol. Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

The two Aerosmith members are joined by Tony Hatch, the British songwriter who penned many songs for Petula Clark. Also part of the class is Mick Jones and Lou Gramm who were band mates in the British/American band, Foreigner. Both Clark and Foreigner are ranked on our notinhalloffame Rock list for the Rock Hall, though neither are expected to be inducted.

Holly Knight was also selected. She penned many hits for Tina Turner, and many others. The final inductee is J.D. Souther, who wrote songs predominately in the Country Rock genre, and penned hits for the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.

Although we do not plan to create a section for the Songwriters Hall of Fame, we congratulate this year’s Class and will be watching to see who will be inducted next.
