gold star for USAHOF

Paul Henderson headlines the 2013 IIHF HOF Class

Many (including the Committee Chairman) have made a case for Paul Henderson for the Hockey Hall of Fame. Henderson did get the call today; although it was for the International Ice Hockey Hall of Fame; which like the better known Hall, is also located in Toronto, Canada.

Paul Henderson scored the most important goal in Canadian Hockey history when he scored the game winner in the Summit Series in 1972 between the Canadians and the Soviet Union. Henderson’s performance in the entire series was a stellar one, and easily the best of his career; and his induction is based on this series.

He is joined by Sweden’s Peter Forsberg. He was a major force for his native country in multiple International tournaments and is a member of the elusive ‘Triple Gold Club” reserved for those who won an Olympic Gold, World Cup Gold and a Stanley Cup Ring.

Forsberg’s fellow countryman, Mats Sundin has also been selected for the Hall. Recently, Sundin was officially enshrined to the Hockey Hall of Fame, and his selection to the IIHF Hall is another post career accolade that was well deserved.

Although Finland did not join their Scandinavian counterpart for Olympic Gold, the “Suomi” did taste the medal stands under the tenure of Teppo Numminen’s play. The talented defenseman retired as the European with the most career games in the National Hockey League.

This group is joined by Danielle Goyette who was a tough female scorer for multiple Canadian Women’s teams. She is one of the game’s first certifiable female stars.

The 2013 Class is rounded out by Jan-Ake Edvinsson as a builder (from Sweden) and broadcaster Gord Miller (From Canada)

We here at Notinhalloffame.com congratulate this year’s class to the International Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
