44. Alexei Kasatonov

In 1983, the New Jersey Devils used their 12thRound Pick, a throwaway on Soviet Defenseman Alexei Kasatonov.  There was not a lot of hope that they would ever get him, but you never knew.  In 1990, after three Olympics and 12 seasons with the Red Army, Kasatonov arrived in New Jersey.

The blueliner had 21 Points in his 39-game “rookie” season, and he followed that with 41 and 40 Points respectively in the two years afterward, with a seventh-place finish in Defensive Point Shares in 1990-91.  After a drop in production in 1992-93, he was left unprotected and claimed by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the Expansion Draft.

Kasatonov scored119 Points for New Jersey.
