27. Tommy Albelin

27. Tommy Albelin

Swedish Defenseman, Tommy Albelin, debuted in the NHL with the Quebec Nordiques in 1987, but Quebec gave up on him, trading him to New Jersey for only a Fourth Round Pick. It turned out to be a quiet thievery by the Devils.

The year he was traded, Albelin concluded his year with New Jersey with 31 Points in 46 Games.  He had 29 Points the next season, but he spent the rest of his career missing games due to various ailments, though a testament to his toughness is that he played until 2006.

As the Devils changed their play to reflect more on defense, Albelin morphed into more of a lockdown defender.  He helped Albelin win the 1995 Stanley Cup, but he was not there for their second win in 2000, as he was with Calgary from 1996 to 2001.  Albelin returned as a grizzled veteran, winning another Stanley Cup in 2003.
