His impact in Boston was immediate as he won the Calder Trophy and became a fan favorite not just in Massachusetts but around the National Hockey League. This is probably why the hockey world celebrated when Bourque finally won a Stanley Cup…in a Colorado Avalanche uniform at the end of his career. That cheering was even in Boston, which considering how that fan base is not known for cheering anybody outside of their own. As expected, Ray Bourque was selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
