Plante also had a very innovative style as he was the first Goalie to go behind his net to stop the puck for his defenders and the first to regularly raise his arm to indicating icing for his team. These subtleties helped his team, and laid a blueprint that others followed. Stylistically, he implored stand up style and relied on perfect positioning to utilize every possible angle. He actually penned the book “The Art of Goaltending” which remains a handbook that every aspiring netminder should read. Plante would rightfully enter the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
