Babe Siebert

Babe Siebert
His physical style, checking ability and the letter “S” at the start of his last name made Babe Siebert the perfect complement to the scoring touch of Nels Stewart and the passing skills of Hooley Smith on the Montreal Maroons famed “S Line”. It was in Montreal where Siebert started his career and posted his best offensive statistics.
Babe Siebert seemingly had two lives in Hockey, as he was converted to a Defenceman in Boston which appeared to rejuvenate the punishing player. After being traded to the Montreal Canadians, Siebert won the Hart Trophy in 1937 and was a First Team All Star for three consecutive years. After he announced his retirement, he was named as the Habs Head Coach. It was a position he never filled as he died tragically when he drowned trying to retrieve his children’s inflatable tire at the lake at his resort.
