4. Daniel Alfredsson
Arguably the best player ever in the second incarnation of the Ottawa Senators, Daniel Alfredsson’s feistiness and skill made you love him if you were a fan of the Sens and despise him if you rooted against Ottawa (AKA, the Toronto Maple Leafs).  The Swedish born star won the Calder trophy and became a consistent scorer in the NHL. Alfredsson may have been to six All Star games, but with a lone post season All Star Team nod (2nd team 2006), Alfredsson may be considered one of the best of the second tier of elite players of his era.  If that is the correct perception, he is on the wrong side of the HOF fence.

Bumper crop in 2018: Brodeur, St. Louis, and probably Alfredsson. Leaves only 1 available spot for any holdovers.

Daniel, Teemu, Jovo-cop, and Ryan Smyth. It's a long shot for some but that's what my heart is telling me to go with.

I'd like to add that Daniel is one of the best Captains in NHL history and has more points with one team and a longer reign as Captain or combined A and C with one team or any team, EVER. He has constantly lead players around him who played decent on Ottawa but after leaving, without his guidance, instantly had far less abilities in the NHL and did not play much longer. Daniel is one of the many players of this generation who had he been fortunate enough to have his prime be in the "high scoring era" 80s and up until the 95 strike, his total career numbers would far exceed what they are now and it would be even clearer how great of a player he is. Offensive stats don't mean everything, but Daniel has them, the career plus minus is one of the best ever as well, top 60 all time in points, assists, plus minus, there are just SO FEW other players from his era who will ever come close to that, I just want it to be clear this guy deserves to get in some day, behind some other great players.

Daniel is one of the best players from his era, and ever. He's had a few injuries but the most time he ever missed was always under 30 games, and consistently has been a player that improved with age and played his style with the style that was currently successful in the NHL. His total points with Ottawa are one of the best totals ever for a player on a single team, he was the best player in the NHL in the playoffs in 07 and took Ottawa to its first finals appearence, lead the league with 14 goals and 22 points, has been up there many times as far as the points and point per game leaders. He has been captain of his team longer than most in history as well. His team may never have won it all, but even in Ottawas cup losing effort, he scored the 2 goals in the final game. He's been great and probably has one of the top 25 ppg's all time if you just look at his play in his 30's, which says had he not played as long in Sweden before the NHL he would have far more points and higher PPG.
