Top 30 WrestleMania matches

In honor of WrestleMania 30 coming up in April 2014, I figured we could discuss the top 30 matches in WrestleMania history. What makes a great WrestleMania match? I'd say a combination of moves, spots, storytelling and grandeur.

My first submission would be Shawn Michaels versus the Undertaker at WrestleMania 25. Two veterans going at each other as mirror opposites. One being the devil himself and the other a born again Christian in a holier than thou phase. The match itself had been built up over the past few years at Royal Rumble events. They were the final two in the 2007 Royal Rumble. They were the first two entrants in the 2008 Rumble. Finally in 2009 the Undertaker just simply gave Michaels some advice which set up their match at that years Mania. The Undertakers winning streak was on the line. They basically tore the house down which essentially killed any match to follow it on the card. Not sure why they didn't make it the main event. A mistake they wouldn't repeat the following year when the two would face off again, only with HBK's career on the line.

Nice.....

I would have one of the 30 be Austin VS Hart at Wrestlemania 13

It was the match that saved the card, executed a perfect double turn, launched Austin, and gave us what i thought was Bret's most entertaining six months.

It was also good wrestling, has a legacy, and told an amazing story......

I'd agree with that.

My next submission would be Randy Savage versus Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania 3. Until this match, WrestleMania really didn't have any matches that would be considered iconic. There were attractions and certainly a couple of good matches, but not on this level. Savage and Steamboat were true showmen. It taught future wrestlers that you don't need to be in the main event to steal the show.

Let me throw this one at you....

Hulk Hogan VS The Ultimate Warrior at WM6

This match had no business being any good, but it was laid out perfectly (had to be Pat Patterson). I can't think of any face vs face contest being perfectly even, where both were elevated. UW may not have been a great champion, but this was a great contest.

I might be a lttle biased because i was there though.....

Can't argue against Warrior Vs Hogan. Sweet that you were there though. My next submission would be other Canadian WrestleMania main event. Or what should have been...

The Rock Vs Hollywood Hogan at WM18

Two icons meeting in a dream match. Like Hogan vs Warrior, this probably didn't have any business being as good as it was given Hogan's age. But it shook the rafters. The only down side would be that it was meant to be a passing of the torch moment and yet the Rock left for Hollywood not long after.

I almost went with that one too.

I would see Bret vs Owen from WMX on a top 30

Great technical match, and it made owen hart a star when very few thought he belonged at that level.

Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker WM25
Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin WM13
Randy Savage Vs Ricky Steamboat WM3
Hulk Hogan Vs The Ultimate Warrior WM6
The Rock Vs Hollywood Hogan WM18
Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart WM10

Once again I'd have to agree on Hart Vs Owen. One of WrestleMania's greatest stories.

I'd like to submit Triple H Vs The Undertaker II

Not III or I, but II. Which was their match at Mania 27. It looked like HHH may have lost the battle, but won the war given that Taker needed to be carted away. Brutal match.

Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker WM25
Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin WM13
Randy Savage Vs Ricky Steamboat WM3
Hulk Hogan Vs The Ultimate Warrior WM6
The Rock Vs Hollywood Hogan WM18
Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart WM10
Undertaker VS Triple H WM27

I was going to go with that one next....!

From WM17, The Hardys vs Edge & Christian VS The Dudleys. Great high spots, three over tag teams and six goodworkers....

Thought i would a tag match in here!

I certainly agree with that match.

Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker WM25
Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin WM13
Randy Savage Vs Ricky Steamboat WM3
Hulk Hogan Vs The Ultimate Warrior WM6
The Rock Vs Hollywood Hogan WM18
Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart WM10
Undertaker Vs Triple H WM27
The Hardys Vs Edge & Christian Vs The Dudleys WM17

I submit Randy Savage Vs The Ultimate Warrior at WM7

The stakes were high, the crowd was hot, and the finishers just weren't cutting it like they normally would. Then of course you had the dramatic reunion of Elizabeth and Savage at the end in probably the most emotional moment in Mania history.

I loved that match too. The only thing that bothered me was UW standing on top for the pin instead of covering, but that is nitpicking really.

I have a controversial selection i think,

Triple H VS SHawn Michaels VS Chris Benoit WM20

Conrtoversial as the ending inages of Benoit withhis family are forever ruined, as is that great moment with him and Eddie. However, it was a great match, which is rare for a WWE three way, told a great story and finally elevated somebody to the status that "wrestling fans" wanted.

Still, if taken in the context for just wrestling, i think it belongs.
