14. Mark Clayton

Dan Marino was a superstar Quarterback, and he would have some high-profile weapons at his disposal, but none were better than Mark Clayton.

Clayton was lightly regarded coming out of Louisville, and the eighth round pick from 1983 was not projected to have a star career.  He made the team and was used mostly as a Punt Returner as a rookie, but that changed in his second season.

That second year was Dan Marino’s MVP year, and Clayton had a career-best 1,389 Receiving Yards with 18 Touchdowns, that would lead the NFL.  The Dolphins made it to the Super Bowl that year, and while Miami would lose, the Marino-Clayton combination would be one of the most prolific in the 1980s.  Clayton was a five-time Pro Bowl Selection and had four more seasons where he received over 1,000 Yards, and he would again lead the league in Receiving Touchdowns in 1988 (14).

Clayton played with Miami until he signed with the Green Bay Packers in 1993, where he played one year before retiring.  With Miami, Clayton had 8,643 Receiving Yards and 81 Touchdowns.  Clayton was chosen for the prestigious Honor Roll in 2003.
