Joe Thomas

The Cleveland Browns did not have a lot to cheer about during the time that Joe Thomas played there (2007-17) as they went through numerous Quarterbacks and other offensive weapons.  That was such a crime as Thomas was the finest Left Tackle of the game for the decade he played in Cleveland and he was the perfect piece to build around.

Winning the 2007 Outland Trophy, which recognized him as the nation’s top Offensive Lineman, the Wisconsin Badger was drafted third overall in 2007.  Immediately starting at Left Tackle, Thomas would play 167 Games and started them all. Thomas had almost unparalleled durability as he set a record for consecutive snaps with 10,363 (though that was only kept track of starting in the 1999 Season).  Named to the Pro Bowl as a rookie, Thomas would keep that pattern going for ten straight years and was named a First Team All Pro six times and a Second Team All Pro twice.  Thomas would only allow 30 Quarterback Sacks in his career leaving it safe to say that few could ever figure out his puzzle when he came off the line.

While the winning percentage of Joe Thomas was abysmal at 48 Wins and 128 Losses what would it be if he didn’t play there?  Whose jersey would Browns fans have bought during that timeframe?  While there will likely never be another Hall of Famer with a worse won/loss ratio there should be no doubt that he deserves to have a bust in Canton.
