If you compare Concepcion's stats with those of Larkin, Ozzie Smith and Pee Wee Reese (ALL Hall of Famers), you see he either matches or surpasses them. Stats don't lie...Dave Concepcion should be in the HOF.

Dave Concepcion invented how to play shortstop on artificial turf, not only the skip throw to first, but playing from what looked like short left field when he first positioned himself there (i think it was in 1971). He established the new threshold of single-digit s in seasonal errors for excellence in play at shortstop.

He was kept out of the hall of fame all the years he was on the ballot because the Reds were hated for their cockiness in success while dominating the entire 1970s, and the voters couldn't very well keep Morgan, Perez, and Bench out, so they took it out on Concepcion.

By the way, that same hateful mentality led Bowie Kuhn to disallow the trade of Vida Blue by the A's to the Reds before the 1977 season. Kuhn claimed it was for "competitive balance", yet A's owner Finley was allowed to sell off the rest of his stars! MLB hated the loss of potential revenue because of the dominance by a small-market franchise.

Davey Concepcion was my shortstop hero growing up. By the way, Davey was the MVP of the 1980 (or '81 or '81 or something like that) All-Star Game. Not too many teams in the '70s had a Gold Glove shortstop who consistently batted between .280 and .300. Plus, he perfected the one-hop off astro-turf throw to 1st base that Jeter seems to get credit for. Defensively, #13 had excellent range (routinely making plays in shallow center- or leftfield and a great arm. He was known to tell Rose and Bench that he was the superstar. Recheck his stats and compare them with other shortstops of his era and you will see he is worthy. Finally, Davey's stats compare with HOFers Luis Aparicio and Ozzie Smith. All three have fielding and batting stats are similar. Concepcion should be in the Hall.
