Electric Light Orchestra

Some artists on this list we expect will get into the Hall. Some we, feel has no realistic chance. In some ways, we almost felt the Electric Light Orchestra is a rare act that kind of felt like they belonged in both categories.

When ELO formed they wanted to create modern Pop songs with classical overtones. This formula that the Electric Light Orchestra created was a successful one, as their melodic tunes were well received and for over a decade they were able to generate numerous successful albums that received airplay on both sides of the Atlantic. Although their music was certainly catchy, the biggest knock against them was that their music was not substantial enough despite the rich textures they used in production. Their chances may be based on how much the Hall thinks that Jeff Lynne is deserving of induction as he was the face and backbone of the band.
