The career of Stephon Marbury (“Starbury”) has been controversial for sure, but it was in Minnesota where he began his NBA career, though we wonder if there are people in the Gopher State who wish he never arrived!

The fourth overall draft pick of 1996 was exciting for sure, and he did help the Timberwolves reach the playoffs, but his trade demands to a larger market hijacked the team somewhat.

Still, this was a natural scorer (though somewhat selfish player) who did enough statistically to warrant his spot on this list.

Who knew he would become a team player in China?

  • Acquired: After being drafted as the 4th Overall Pick by the Milwaukee Bucks, he was traded for Ray Allen and a 1998 1st Round Pick (which would later be Rasho Nesterovic) 6/26/96
  • Departed: Traded with Chris Carr and Bill Curley to the New Jersey Nets as part of a three-team trade.  The Milwaukee Bucks sent Terrell Brandon to Minnesota.  Milwaukee sent Elliot Perry to New Jersey.  Minnesota sent Paul Grant to Milwaukee.  New Jersey sent Sam Cassell and Chris Gatling to Milwaukee.  New Jersey sent Brian Evans and their 1999 1st Round Pick (which would be Wally Szczerbiak) to Minnesota 3/11/99.
