Before we get to the statistical reasons for placing John Titus on our list, let’s first take a look at his nicknames.

One of those names was “Silent John”, which obviously referred to the fact that he didn’t talk much.  The other was “Tight Ass”, which referred to his spending habits and not for his gluteus maximus.  Basic nicknames, yes, but they certainly add to the colorfulness of the era, especially considering he wasn’t that interesting a personality to begin with.

Now that we have that out of the way, Titus was a fundamentally sound Outfielder both with his bat and glove.  Known to possess a decent eye at the plate, Titus finished three times in the top ten in Batting Average and six times in On Base Percentage in the NL.  He would collect 1,209 Hits over his Phillies career.
