Roy Thomas took a lot of bases on balls…Seriously, it was a lot!

Thomas would lead the National League in free passes seven times and was also a two time On Base Percentage leader.  Thomas, who as of this writing is 29th all time in OBP exceed the .400 mark seven straight times (1899-1905) would fins other ways to get on base.  He was a .300 Hitter four times, though it is interesting how he did this as he rarely had extra base hits and was perhaps the best definition of a slap hitter of his day.

Thomas would retire with some strange stats as he is the only player to have three times as many Runs Scored as RBIs and has the highest career OBP in relation to Slugging Percentage (.413 to .334).  While that might be a detriment, this was still a man who got to first a lot and knew how to work the bases when he got there.  This is a type of player who is welcome in any era.
