Jarrod Dyson had limited power (only 7 Home Runs over his Kansas City Royals career) and he never had a season for the Royals where he had 350 Plate Appearances or more than 85 Hits. Essentially, he never had a full-time role for the Royals over any season, but when he did play there was something special that he showcased.
Dyson was an average hitter at best but when he got on base he was always a threat to steal. He was a four-time 30 base stealer and he was in the top three in that statistic three times. Dyson used his speed well in Centerfield and despite not playing regularly he was the American League leader among Centerfielders in Range Factor per Game. Dyson didn’t play much in the 2015 playoffs, but his baserunning did assist the Royals win the World Series that year.
Sabremetrically speaking his 11.7 bWAR as a Royal is good enough to warrant a spot here in terms of this franchise, and yes that does matter! After four years away, Dyson returned to Kansas City as a Free Agent for the 2021 Season, but it was a brief stay, as he was placed on Waivers that summer and claimed by Toronto.
