Defensively, he was stellar. In the inaugural season of the American League, the Third Baseman finished first in Defensive bWAR. He would later finish in the top ten in that statistic in the next four years.
Collins was getting older, and year by year, his play declined. He was traded to the Philadelphia Athletics in 1907. With the Americans, Collins had 881 Hits with a .296 Batting Average.
Collins would be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945 by the Old Timers Committee, and by virtue of Cooperstown, he was part of the first Red Sox Hall of Fame Class.
